Well, the official news is in. Henry Elementary is no more. There was no hope that they would try to keep it. Even the local people did not try to fight. The school has been close to exctinction for quite some time. Primarily because people who have pull really did not want it. No one knows what will become of the children or the teachers yet. But we do know that they will come in an give those of us who have seniority a choice. We will have to make a decision right then and there. What will I do, I have not the slightest idea. I do not want to go back into the classroom. I am too old to put up with that hassle again. I can’t say that this makes the year better or worse. I wish I had the experience to go into a job with less stress than this, but I will make the decision when I am informed as to what I can decide.
what kind of choices do you expect to be given? and when do you expect to be given them? i can’t believe they would expect you to make a life-altering choice like that on the spot. that doesn’t seem fair… but why start now, i guess? still, i hope they offer you something that makes sense, that will allow you to enjoy your position. i will think good thoughts.
January 20, 2006 @ 10:16 amToday we received our order of rank according to seniority. People in both Henry Elem. and Pecan Island. Well, I am not too far down, but I definitely am not at the top. Mayfly, we honestly do not know what is going to happen. They are planning on writing another grant, because they will lose this one by closing Henry. This means that they must open up another school. When all these things get decided, then we will probably learn about getting the job there. The problem is will this happen before we have to make a decision. NO ONE KNOWS. Just like they waited so long just to tell us what everyone already knew. They would close the school. Charlotte, the principal, came into our room this afternoon. Mitzi asked her and she provided the above info. BUT she said she was not counting on anything. They have suppose to have brought portable buildings to our campus for quite some time. She said if they don’t come in by February, she may tell them to “JUST FORGET ABOUT IT”. What are they going to do take away her principal job…move her somewhere else…been there done that. She said that she had been bouncing the idea of starting a Charter School. We all said, if you do, let us know. We are interested. She also said when Erath finds out what they are not going to get, some people there are going to want a Charter School just like in New Orleans. That way we can fire all the school board members and the principal runs the school. We are just about ready for anything. But when you ask anyone of any rank in the parish except for our supervisor, they do not know. So stay tune for the next chapter to our story.
