I Heart Huckabees

Filed under: Entries — arglor @ 11:23 am

Schitzophrenic light hearted tale about existence, that doesn’t take itself too seriously, or the subject for that matter.

The rest is spoilers.

The story follows a series of individual’s lives emonstrating how existential dilemma’s occur. Ok i’m a philosopher, and i happen to be interested in the existential phenomena. This movie grates my understanding of the existential dilemma with it’s poor use of facts and it’s unfortunate adoption of half-ass theories that sound like new age religious fanatacism then any real detailed self-analysis. Anyone who questions humanity’s existence should be angered by such a trivialization of this dillemma.

BUT

It is a movie. Novel concept eh? As such i neglect the above objection to focus on it’s intents and it’s conclusions. This is how i come away with such a high opinion of the movie. Sure if the movie took itself seriously, then it would be flawed. It does not though. The movie goes from character to character showing a demonstration of humanity in it’s most simple existence, and then using it as comedic interlude. What concludes is a hillarious movie that attempts to be taken intellegently.

Mark Whalberg was absoleutly hillarious, and Dustin Hoffman was exactly what i expected. MW surprised the hell out of me though. I didn’t think he would pull off being such a good demonstration of masculine ignorance and yet so damned full of concern.

The psychotic demonstrations of the inner soul of the main character were interesting on a theoretical basis, they are exists in cut-out facsimilies of the world. All the characters demonstrate a form of false existence in the hallucinations.

I’m done.

Wait a sec… didn’t we have an arg… er, discussion on the way out of the movie in which I said that [i:0db557536c]The Royal Tenenbaums[/i:0db557536c] was a better film because I said it discussed more human truths and in which you said “what is this [b:0db557536c]human[/b:0db557536c] truth of which you speak,” [i:0db557536c]I Heart Huckabees[/i:0db557536c] is better because it discusses important [b:0db557536c]objective[/b:0db557536c] truths/ideas? And now you’re saying that [i:0db557536c]IHH’s[/i:0db557536c] ideas were completely botched and it was just a light-hearted hilarious tale about existence… a novel concept… a funny movie… Do you still think it beats [i:0db557536c]TRT[/i:0db557536c]? Hmmm.

the subjective “human” truths of the writer and the so-called “objective” truths of the philosopher… 😉

TRT sucked because it doesn’t talk about anything except a fucked up family. It is horridly unrealistic, and the characters make me wonder what the hell they do considering themselves human. Period. This movie had characters who were at least humane. Not to mention TRT had no truth, human or objective to speak of. It was simply a farcicle tale about the dreges of human society. The manipulative liars that don’t understand the social ethic. TRT is crap compared to this movie.

This sounds vaguely reminisced of past aruguments. I wonder who these two could be?????

Or did you gather that? David said Trey agrees with me about [i:672802907b]The Royal Tenenbaums[/i:672802907b]. I think they have had similar arguments…

I forget because it’s been so long… and I’d be curious to hear your counterargument… but it got great reviews… And may I remind you that the reviewer of IHH said it tried to mimic but didn’t measure up to TRT? I tend to think your love of ethics made you unable to appreciate the movie… Much love, M

I appreciate your love of and background in ethics. I’m glad you have it. But it’s sort of like me and say [i:468b2599aa]Pulp Fiction[/i:468b2599aa]… I can’t appreciate it because I have a serious distaste for the lifestyles of its characters. So, I hypothesize, it may be with you and TRT…

Nothing wrong with that, i just don’t agree. I just don’t like seeing horrible people doing selfishly horrible things. And also i hate seeing people who fuck up on a normal basis fuck up consisitently -> i.e. sitcoms. It makes me cringe and i abandon it usually. i also see that I heart Huckabees makes a 60% which is effectively lower then I heart huckabees, but this is due to the failure of making the movie as good as it could have been. I think the script/dialogue/characters could have done well if the main character was stronger and the direction had been better. Oh well i give up…
